Council Tax Status Discounts

Some adults living in the property are disregarded for Council Tax purposes meaning that you may be entitled to a discount in the amount of Council Tax you have to pay.

The full Council Tax charge is based on two adults (18 years or over) being resident in the property.

However, some adults are disregarded for Council Tax purposes because of their status. This means they will not be counted for Council Tax purposes when looking at the number of adult residents in the property. As a result, you may be entitled to a Council Tax discount.

Note: If all the residents in the property are students care leavers, under 18 years or persons with severe mental health difficulties you may be entitled to an exemption.

The table below provides you with examples of the amount of Council Tax discount, if any, you may be entitled to.
