Apprentice

You may be entitled to a Council Tax discount if a resident in the property is an apprentice.

Qualifying Apprentice

To qualify as an apprentice for Council Tax purposes they must be:

  • Employed to learn a trade, business, profession, office role or vocation, and
  • On a recognised course of training leading to an accredited qualification, and
  • paid no more than £256 per week gross, from 1 April 2024.

How to apply:

If you think you may be entitled to a discount you will need to ask your employer to complete the Apprentice Employer Form (PDF, 50 KB)(opens new window) .

Once completed,  you can use our online Council Tax Apprentice Status Form to apply. You must upload your completed Apprentice Employer Form along with a copy of your last 3 pay slips as part of your application.

You can still submit your form without this information however it may delay your application. Discount cannot be awarded unless you provide the required supporting evidence.
