The sale of alcohol is controlled by law and each local government area must have a Licensing Board.

Please note that all the Licensing web pages are intended to guide you through the procedures associated with making an application for a licence. They are not intended to summarise relatively complex areas of the law. Anyone using these pages should obtain independent advice from their own solicitors or advice centre.

Following the recent election on 5 May 2022 West Lothian Council will appoint new members to the West Lothian Licensing Board. This webpage will be updated following those appointments.

West Lothian Licensing Board meetings are being held remotely at present and the meetings will be broadcast via the Council's website. Any member of the public wishing to view the meeting can do so through this link:

Please note that once an application is received and is deemed to be complete it will be acknowledged and sent for processing. Once the objection period has passed, the Clerk will then decide at which meeting the application will be heard and applicants and agents will be advised accordingly. There is currently a backlog of applications to be processed due to an unprecedented rise in the numbers of applications being received. Applications requiring to be referred to the Board will be dealt with in chronological order and it is recommended that all applications are checked carefully before being submitted as incomplete applications will cause further delay.
