Disruption warning over Wester Inch retail works
Local residents in the Wester Inch area of Bathgate are being warned over potential travel disruption due to building works
Persimmon Homes are set to start construction this month of a retail unit, four commercial units and 85 residential plots around the junction of Leyland Road and Simpson Avenue in Bathgate.
During the construction period, temporary traffic lights will be in operation on Leyland Road and Simpson Avenue as and when required to ensure the safe movement of both pedestrians and vehicles through the works area.
Where construction vehicles are entering and leaving the works areas, banksmen will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians. The developer has also been encouraged to ensure there are no deliveries or excessive construction vehicle movements during the start and finish times of Simpson Primary School.
Please note that planning permission for this development was refused by West Lothian Council, and overturned by the Scottish Ministers' reporter on appeal.
In line with planning conditions set by the Reporter, the retail and commercial units must be fully complete prior to occupation of any residential units.
The works are due to start on the retail / commercial units on 19 January 2026 and the expected completion date of these retail units is September 2026.
For the residential plots, the developer has provided an indicative route of build and this is noted below. These build routes are also shown on the attached plan reference BVC-09-02.
