Low Emission Zone exemptions

Find out more about Low Emission Zones and how they will impact on Blue Badge users

Low Emission Zones (LEZ)

Low Emission Zones will be introduced in the following areas from: -

  • 1/6/2023 - Glasgow;
  • 30/5/2024 - Dundee;
  • 1/6/2024 - Aberdeen;
  • 1/6/2024 - Edinburgh.

From the above dates, you may incur charges for driving in these areas if your vehicle is not 'LEZ' compliant. Blue Badge holders can apply for an exemption from 'LEZ' charges if their vehicle is not 'LEZ' compliant.

You can use the online Vehicle checker (opens new window) to check if your vehicle, or the vehicle to be used to transport a Blue Badge holder, is already LEZ compliant.

If you are a Blue Badge holder, and the vehicle you will be travelling in is not 'LEZ' compliant or does not hold a 'Disabled vehicle Tax Class', then you will need to register for an exemption in advance of travel. You can apply for an exemption. (opens new window) on the Low Emission Zone website.

Exemptions can be applied for individual days, or longer term if needed. Click here for a full list of the exemption criteria (opens new window).

If you have any further queries on the Low Emission Zone scheme please check the Low Emission Zone website (opens new window) or contact Transport Scotland by email at: BlueBadge@transportscotland.gov.scot
