Council Tax Billing

Information about your Council Tax bill.

Payments

If you pay by direct debit we will request your payment from your bank or building society on your payment date so you will never be in arrears with your payments.

Your bill shows you how much you are due to pay. We must receive your council tax payment on or before the payment date detailed on your bill.

It is important that you make your payment on time as by law, if we don't receive your payment on time, we will ask you to make the missed payment within seven days. If you do not do this, you will lose your right to pay in instalments after another seven days. The amount you owe for the rest of the year will then be due immediately and we will apply to the Sheriff Court for a 'summary warrant' at which stage statutory costs of 10% of the amount you owe will be added to your bill.

Charges

Your bill will detail the Council Tax charge and water and waste water charges (if applicable) for the Council Tax band your property is in.

Reductions

Your bill will detail any reductions in your Council Tax, water and waste water charges.

You may have a reduction in your charges due to the award of a discount, Disabled Persons Reduction, exemption or Council Tax Reduction Scheme. Your bill will detail the reason for the reduction. If you think you may be entitled to a reduction that is not detailed on your bill you should make an application without delay.

If you are no longer entitled to a reduction detailed on your bill or have had a change of circumstances that means you may no longer be entitled to the reduction you must inform us immediately. You can do this by email.

Your bill will also detail the amount of all payments you have made.
