Reducing Food Waste

The following information will be of help to food business operators in meeting their duties to reduce food waste and comply with new legal requirements regarding the separation and collection of food waste.

The Waste (Scotland) Regulations place a duty on food businesses as follows:

  • Food businesses producing over 5kg of food waste per week to present it for separate collection.
  • A ban on the use of macerators to discharge food waste into the public sewer.
