Register your food business
Any food business which is operating within West Lothian must register with Environmental Health at least 28 days prior to opening.
The Application form for registration of a food business (PDF, 56 KB)(opens new window) should be completed, signed and either:
- Scanned and submitted electronically by accessing our customer portal via About Environmental Health and Trading Standards . Select "Food business registration" as the request subject and upload the completed form.
Or
- Posted to Environmental Health and Trading Standards, West Lothian Civic Centre, Howden South Road, Livingston, West Lothian, EH54 6FF.
When your completed registration form is received your business details will be included in our premises database and will be included in our inspection plan. You do not need to be inspected prior to opening. Complying with food safety legislation is the responsibility of the food business operator.
If you have provided an email address we will send a confirmation that your business has registered, however this may be several days after we receive your application.
We are required to provide food business details as part of a public register if someone requests this. This information is generally limited to business details (name, address and business type) and we do not release personal or sensitive business information routinely. Personal information etc. would only be released for the purpose of enforcement or regulatory control to another party who has legal entitlement to that information.
Information regarding food safety compliance within your business can be released in terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. We also publish relevant information on business compliance under the Food Hygiene Information Scheme.
