Healthy eating - providing healthier choices to customers
Safe and healthy food is vital to our wellbeing. Environmental health officers work closely with other groups and individuals who encourage and support the providing of healthy food options in local businesses.
We support the national Healthy Living Awards which recognise those businesses providing healthy options across most of their menu.
We also work closely with our colleagues in the Health and Social Care Partnership Health Improvement Team. We have provided training and information sessions to local businesses over the years, and continue to look for ways to encourage business operators to learn more about creating healthier options in their business.
Not all businesses can necessarily meet the criteria for a Healthy Living Award, but everyone could do something to make the food they offer a healthier alternative. Steps can be taken to reduce salt, fat, sugar, calorie content and many other elements.
The Health Improvement Team can be a good source of expertise and training in providing healthier food options. You can find out more information by visiting their web pages.
Food Standards Scotland have also created information on their web site which may be of help to you. (opens new window)
