Decking and other raised platforms
This class allows the construction, maintenance or alteration of a deck or other raised platform, as long as:
- no part of the deck or platform positioned forward of the principal elevation of your house, or a side elevation that fronts a road
- the floor level of the deck would be no more than half a metre from the ground*
- the combined height of the deck and any wall, fence, balustrade or handrail attached to it would not exceed 2.5 metres from ground level*.
*Where ground level is sloping, the height of the deck is measured from the lowest point of the ground on which the deck stands.
If you live in a listed building or conservation area, the deck or platform should not exceed four square metres in area.
A building warrant might be required; we advise that you check before you start work.
