West Lothian Council has been recognised over the years by a range of national local government award schemes including:
Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) Excellence Awards
The COSLA Excellence Awards is intended to recognise high quality public services that are making a difference in local communities. In particular, it seeks creative projects and practices that are transforming local services, improving outcomes and reducing inequalities at a time of unprecedented challenge for the sector.
Award categories are as follows:
Category 1 - Service Innovation and Improvement
Category 2 - Achieving Better Outcomes
Category 3 - Tackling Inequalities and Improving Health
Category 4 - Strong and Sustainable Communities
Category 5 - Local Matters
Bronze, Silver, Gold and Special Awards are awarded in each category.

The Association of Public Sector Excellence (APSE)
APSE is a not for profit unincorporated association working with over 300 councils throughout the UK, promoting excellence in public services. The APSE Annual Awards are designed to recognise excellence in local government front line services.

Healthy Working Lives (HWL) Gold Award
In 2019/20 West Lothian Council has retained the Healthy Working Lives (HWL) Gold Award.
Tenant Information Service (TIS) Danny Mullen Excellence in Scrutiny Award
The Tenant Participation Editorial Panel were awarded the TIS Danny Mullen Excellence in Scrutiny award in June 2019. Officers and tenant panel members were there to receive the award, which was particularly poignant for everyone connected with the TP team. TIS have named this award in memory of (West Lothian's own) Danny and his long standing commitment to ensuring clear public scrutiny of housing services, and our scrutiny arrangements have been developed in close partnership with Danny and other tenant reps over the last 2 decades.
