Moving Home
Details of how to advise us that you are moving home and what information we need to open, update or close your Council Tax account.
If you:
- have moved to a new address in West Lothian;
- will be moving to a new address in West Lothian;
- have purchased a property in West Lothian and intend to let it out;
- have moved out of West Lothian or
- will be moving out of West Lothian
You must notify the council of your change of address. To tell us about your move you can either:
- complete our online Council Tax Enquiry Form
- email us
- write to us at the address in the contacts box
Moving into a property
We need the following information to allow us to open a Council Tax account.
- If you own the property:
- the date the purchase of the property was completed
- the date you moved into the property
- the address of your previous property
- the forwarding address of the previous owner, if you know it
Note: If you have purchased a property that has been improved since it was last purchased (e.g. an extension has been added) the Assessor for Lothian Valuation Joint Board may revalue the property and place it in a higher valuation band.
- If you rent the property:
- the date the tenancy started
- the date you moved into the property
- your landlord or letting agent's name and address
Moving out of a property
We need the following information to allow us to close a Council Tax account.
- If you owned the property:
- the date you moved out of the property
- the date of sale of the property
- the full name of the new owner
- your forwarding address
- If you rented the property:
- the date you moved out of the property
- the date your tenancy agreement ended
- your landlord or letting agent's name and address
