Storm Eowyn Red Weather Warning - Impact on council services

The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for 10am-5pm tomorrow Friday 24 January covering West Lothian.

Please see below for details on council services impacted by the weather warning:

Schools

All West Lothian Council schools and Early Learning Centres will be closed tomorrow (Friday 24 January), in response to the red weather warning issued.

Individual Schools will provide information to all parents/carers directly on remote learning arrangements and any alterations required to school timetables and events.

Schools are planned to reopen as normal on Monday 27 January unless otherwise advised.


Waste Services

All bin collections are suspended for Friday 24 January. Residents are asked to please not present their bin for collection.

If your bin was due for collection on Friday 24 January please present your bin for collection on the morning of Saturday 25 January and leave it out until it is collected.  

All Community Recycling Centres will be closed to the public.

All arranged bulky uplift bookings will be cancelled. Customers who have booked an uplift for Friday 24 January will be contacted to make alternative arrangements at a later date.


Parks & Open Spaces

Members of the public are strongly advised to not travel to any of West Lothian's country parks or other wooded areas during the weather warning due to the risk posed by falling trees and debris. Facilities such as visitor centres and toilets will be closed.


Housing & Building Services

The service will only be carrying out emergency repairs on Friday 24 January, all other non-emergency works have been suspended. Impacted tenants will be contacted to reschedule their non-emergency repairs next week.


Partnership Centres, Libraries, Community Centres and West Lothian Civic Centre

Partnership Centres, Libraries, Community Centres and West Lothian Civic Centre:
Council Services delivered at West Lothian Civic Centre will be closed to the public.
Nearly all services within Partnership Centres will be closed to the public however GP practices within Blackburn, Fauldhouse and Strathbrock Partnership Centres are set to be open.
Libraries and Community Centres will be closed to the public on Friday 24 January. All buildings are due to re-open as normal on Saturday 25 January unless otherwise stated.


Social care

Residential care services for children, adults and older people will continue to operate as usual

Housing with Care services will operate as usual

Care at home support will be provided. If there is any change to a persons care at home support, contact will be made with the person or family by the service

Council Adults day services will not be open. Day service managers will be in contact with all people affected

Social work teams will work from home. Contact can be made for all social work offices through the usual numbers. All public protection and social work business will be responded to and home visits made when that is needed

Public Transport

Please visit public transport providers to find out their arrangements during the warning period.
