New Build Council Housing
This section provides information about West Lothian Council's New Build Housing Programme.
Background
Demand for social housing in West Lothian remains high, with over 11,000 applicants on the Common Housing Register for West Lothian Council, Almond Housing Association and Link Housing Association at the end of July 2024. Waiting lists are lengthy due to high demand and low turnover within West Lothian.
West Lothian Council is to invest more than £157 million in to council housing over the next 5 years. While most of the budget is set against our existing stock, there is also significant resources which will continue to be invested in the development of new build houses and the purchasing of houses through the Open Market Acquisition Scheme (OMAS).
Four new sites have been added to the interactive map below which are planned to be delivered by West Lothian Council.

It is not just the council who build new build affordable housing, Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) who operate in West Lothian are also planning to deliver over 500 houses in the 5 years from 2022/23. You can find more information on RSL partners on the Housing Associations and Landlords page.
All types of social housing in West Lothian, whether council or RSL, are currently in very high demand and as a result, anyone considering applying for social housing in West Lothian is strongly encouraged to ensure that they register not just with the council, but with all Registered Social Landlords who operate in West Lothian.
