Quality Policy

West Lothian Council is committed to working with the people, businesses and communities of West Lothian to enhance the quality of life by providing, both directly and in partnership with others, a comprehensive range of quality and valued services that meet peoples' needs and aspirations and which are delivered on the basis of fairness and quality.

Roads and Transportation, as part of Operational Services, implement this ethos in the provision of, regulatory, consultancy and contracting services in all aspects of strategic transportation, development management, road safety, traffic management, project design, the management of structures, road maintenance, public utility and roadwork co-ordination, street lighting design and maintenance, flood risk management and road operations. Duties and responsibilities are undertaken in compliance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.

How the service delivers

The Roads and Transportation service unit is led by management and staff committed to delivering a reliable, accountable and efficient service to the satisfaction of stakeholders in a cost effective manner. Particular emphasis is placed on the managerial, professional and technical experience of its staff supported by a planned training programme to further develop that expertise.

Roads and Transportation is dedicated to continual improvement in the performance and quality of its services and operates through a set of targets and objectives that are continuously reviewed.

Roads and Transportation is dedicated to providing a safe working environment and safe systems of work to all staff supported by a dedicated Health and Safety Committee.

The Quality Management Team

A Quality Management Team has been designated to ensure that the quality management system requirements, objectives and targets are identified and delivered.

The Quality Management Team determine and consider any internal and external issues that could affect its ability to achieve the intended result(s) of its quality system and ensures any factors affecting the service (including risks to the service objectives and opportunities to improve) are identified and considered.

The Quality Management Team shall ensure that this Quality Policy is understood by staff, implemented and maintained.

The Quality Management Team shall also consider this Quality Policy at Management Review meetings to ensure its continuing relevance and suitability.

Roads and Transportation's Quality Management System is operated to meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.
