Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Community Development Trust and Burnhouse School Skills Centre: Coffee Shop - £5000
Fauldhouse and Breich Community Development Trust and Burnhouse School (Skills Centre) have a well-established partnership.
Both the Development Trust and the school have worked together on inter-generational projects over a number of years. Young people who attend the Skills Centre have a range of additional support needs and developmental disabilities and benefit from working with the Development Trust and the local Fauldhouse and Breich community to develop social skills and meet positive role models.
The establishment of a shared coffee shop will bridge the gap between the young and older members of our community. Young people with a range of disabilities will have the opportunity to share their challenges with older members of the community through the coffee shop and create a greater shared understanding between equalities groups. This project also enables older people in the local community to share their challenges and to work together with young people with a range of additional support needs to overcome these challenges together. The venture will be organised by the young people of the Skills Centre who will be trained in barista skills. The experience of being barista trained would enable the young people to achieve a National 5 qualification in Barista Skills boosting their employability skills significantly as well as raising awareness of the challenges they face on a daily basis in the local area together with older members of the community. As well as sharing challenges between equalities groups, the programme will further strengthen strong relationships between older people and younger generations with a range of disabilities and additional support needs, and develop a shared understanding of the challenges and discrimination each other face.
