Before the work starts, the surveyor will give you specific directions based on the nature of the work being completed at your property.
These instructions should be adhered to at all times.
Click on the drop downs below for a general overview of what to expect from a Health & Safety perspective.
Before work commences, a pre-start survey will be completed to assess the work required and prepare for the work to be done.
Internal or external access to your property will be required depending on the work content. Your cooperation in maintaining access on the agreed date(s) is essential as this will ensure the works are completed with as little inconvenience to you as possible.
Before starting the work, we will conduct a thorough check of your property to identify any pre-existing damage and maintain a photographic record for future reference, including reinstatement or claims purposes.
It would be advisable for you to vacate the premises on the day of the works, especially if there will be any young children or pets in the property.
Young Children and pets should be closely supervised.
Although there may be some noise, dust, dirt, and general rubbish during the project, we will ensure that your property is returned to its original condition upon completion.
Power tools will be in use which will cause risks to persons such as electrical shock, personal damage, noise and vibration. These will only be used by those with suitable training.
Trailing leads and dust sheets may be in use and be a potential trip hazard.
Open flame, high heat blow torches may be used whilst carrying out plumbing work.
Some of our products may emit smells and odours, which can cause inconvenience or nausea. Appropriate risk assessments will be undertaken prior to use,
Smoke and heat detectors may be set off accidentally during the works.
Sharp tools and materials will be used to carry out the works.
Attic hatches, doors and floorboards may be left open to allow the work to progress.
Warning signs will be placed at the entrance and within your home to warn of open floors, and barriers will be placed around open floors when unattended.
There may be short intervals during the works where the electricity, gas or heating will be switched off
Doors and windows may be left open and exposed to inclement weather. Where possible, we would request that, for your safety and comfort, you stay in the vicinity of one room whilst the work is in progress
We may also require access to your property to disconnect and reconnect TV or satellite aerial cables, and it is possible that this could cause some disruption to your TV reception
We will need access to various locations within the property. Please clear these areas to allow full access. The surveyor will advise in advance.
These locations include:
Cupboards containing your boiler, hot water tank, gas, and electricity meters.
Walls that radiators or heaters will be positioned against will require to be completely cleared of furniture and the entire wall space cleared.
Where identified, all kitchen and bathroom cupboards should be emptied and worktops cleared.
Valuables must be locked away and not left lying around.
Large or heavy wall units must be emptied of ornaments, dishes etc.,
Any small ornaments and fragile items must be placed out of the way.
Foodstuffs must also be stored away.
All electrical items such as kettles, toasters and microwave ovens, as well as ornaments, should be stored away safely; this will prevent any accidental damage
Where necessary and where possible, mirrors, pictures, clocks, light shades, wall lights and ornaments on walls should be removed before the work commences.
White goods such as washing machines, fridges, freezers and cookers will be reconnected.
Electrical testing may be carried out on all electrical circuits. If the electrical system in your home has not been checked recently, a new fuse board may need to be fitted.
Our engineers may assist in moving heavy furniture where a need has been highlighted.
On completing the works, our engineers will visually inspect your appliances. If any of your appliances are found to be in an unsafe condition during this inspection, it may be necessary for your safety to isolate these appliances. While this may cause inconvenience, we are required by current Legislation to do so.
Curtains and blinds may need to be removed before the start date to ensure clear access to the working area.
All furniture, including garden furniture, must be removed from existing work areas or the garden of your property.
If we erect scaffolding or access equipment, we will ensure the accessible areas and walkways are clear of obstructions and mess.
Working at height carries risks; please be cautious of work-at-height equipment such as; scaffolds, platforms, hoists and access equipment that may be used during this period.
When operatives are working on the scaffold, please ensure that you keep your doors and windows closed and be aware of the need for our employees to access areas in the line of sight of windows.
There will be debris in and around the scaffold areas; this will be cleared as work progresses, and a final clear will be within five days of the scaffolding being removed.
Please note: you are advised to notify your insurance company that scaffolding will be erected at your property for the length of the contract period.
Once the scaffolding is set up, access to the scaffolding is strictly prohibited.
During the works, locating a skip in your garden/ driveway may be required.
For us to do the work, it is highly likely that you will need to remove your vehicle from the driveway. This will prevent any damage and allow access to the scaffold or skip.
Upon completion of the work, all landscaping will be returned to its original condition as reasonably practical.
