Terms and Conditions of Employment (General)

The council operates a number of sets of terms and conditions of employment which are set out below.  Which set applies to you is determined by the role you are employed to do and further detail on the roles covered by each set of terms and conditions is given below

Craft Operatives

The Scottish Joint Negotiating Committee for Craft Operatives covers all craft employees and associated working across local government in Scotland.  Agreements on conditions of service issues are incorporated into the Craft Agreement.  Within the council the following posts are covered by this agreement;

Bricklayer, Blacksmith, Builder, Electrical Technician, Electrician, Fencer, Gas Engineer, Glazier, Joiner, Painter, Plasterer, Plumber (incl Advanced), Roofer, Driver/Labourer, Scaffolder

If you are part of this group your terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the collective agreements negotiated by the Scottish Joint Negotiating Committee for Local Authorities' Services as set out in the National Agreement on Pay and Conditions of Service for Building and Civil Engineering Operatives, Engineering Craftsmen, Electricians and Plumbers.  These may be varied or added to by Local collective agreements reached with recognised trade unions (Unison, Unite and GMB) and by other policies, procedures and arrangements that the council from time to time implements as part of its working arrangements.

Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers

All teaching staff are covered by the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers.

If you are part of this group your terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the collective agreements negotiated by the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers (SNCT).  These may be varied or added to by local collective agreements reached with recognised trade unions (EIS and SSTA) and by other policies, procedures and arrangements that the council implements as part of its working arrangements.

Scottish Joint Council (SJC)

The Scottish Joint Council covers all employees not covered by either of the sets of terms and conditions above and is the largest group of employees within the council.

If you are part of this group your terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the collective agreements negotiated by the Scottish Joint Council for Local Government Employees (SJC) as set out in the National Agreement on Pay and Conditions of Service.  These may be varied or added to by local collective agreements reached with recognised trade unions (Unison, Unite and GMB) and by other policies, procedures and arrangements that the council implements as part of its working arrangements.
