STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities - Friday Club
This project will help local school children develop an interest and understanding of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) topics and activities. The Friday After School Club and Community Action Blackburn will use their award to purchase the resources needed to deliver a STEM club for up to 30 children in Blackburn. This will enable them to participate in activities over a school year in the hope that they will pursue them in upper primary school classes and eventually inspire their subject choices when they enter secondary school.
This project will benefit young people through;
- purchasing resources to be able to deliver a STEM Club for up to 30 children from the community so they can participate in activities over an academic year, hopefully inspiring and motivating the children to look at STEM subjects one they are in the Upper Primary Classes and ultimately as their High School choices.
- Employing a youth work assistant to support the delivery of the club
- a STEM launch which could include delivery of workshops from the Science Centre and would be open to whole community including the Friday Club
- The project will culminate in an excursion to the Glasgow Science Centre or Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh that will provide them with an experience that will help to bring all their learning together
The activities will take place in the Blackburn Partnership Centre and the club will be open to school pupils in Blackburn in school years P3 to P7.
