Responsibility for water quality and pollution is shared between West Lothian Council, Scottish Water ,the Drinking water Quality Regulator and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA)

Who regulates Water Quality?

Mains supplied drinking water quality is the  responsibility of  Scottish Water.   • Burst and Blocked sewers are dealt with by Scottish Water in conjunction with Environmental Health and when necessary SEPA.
  • Septic tanks, which are causing problems are dealt with by Environmental Health.
  • Unidentified water (source not know) is dealt by Environmental Health.
