Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Schemes

Area Based Schemes are for private homeowners and landlords in Scotland to help with the cost of certain energy efficiency improvements. These projects are funded by the Scottish Government in order to help householders access grants and assistance to make their homes warmer and more affordable to heat, subject to qualifying criteria. They are designed and delivered by councils with local delivery partners.

Working in partnership with the Scottish Government, West Lothian Council is offering grant funding to householders to encourage the uptake of energy efficiency improving measures with a specific focus on Solid Wall Insulation and Hard to Treat properties.

Each year the ABS scheme once funding has been successfully procured a letter of offer will be sent to the hard to treat properties of a non-standard construction type in the most fuel poor areas that have been identified as part of the application process with the Scottish Government. These areas cannot be disclosed ahead of any planned ABS programme to avoid people purchasing properties in a target area.

If your home is selected for a future ABS programme you can contact Home Energy Scotland to apply for an interest free loan to pay the customer contribution for inclusion in the programme.

The loan allows the applicant to spread the cost (£1,050 over the last 3 years) over a period that is affordable after an affordability check as part of the loan application.
