Citizenship Ceremonies
Information regarding British Citizenship Ceremonies
Attending a Citizenship Ceremony.
West Lothian is proud to welcome new citizens. If you make a successful application for British Citizenship, you will receive a letter from the Home office inviting you to book an appointment within 21 days. We are currently seeing new citizens on an appointment basis at our Bathgate Registration Office at a time suitable to both parties.
Unfortunately, due to the current COVID situation we are not able to welcome friends or family to accompany you to your appointment.
What Documents are Required?
When you attend your appointment you will be required to bring your Citizenship invitation letter from the Home Office and a form of photographic ID: i.e. (Passport, Travel Document, Driving Licence, Biometric Residence Card) if you do not provide these documents you will not be permitted to attend the ceremony. A new appointment date will then need to be arranged.
What Happens Next?
On receiving your invitation you can give the Bathgate Registration Office a call and they will advise you of the next available appointment.
You will be required to swear allegiance by either Oath or the Affirmation which can be confirmed when arranging your appointment.
When you arrive a member of staff will collect your invitation and check over all your documentation and explain the procedure for the appointment.
You will also be presented with a pack which contains:
- Your Citizenship Certificate
- An application form to join the Register of Electors
- An application form to apply for a British Passport (if requested)
