Proposal to Review Non-Denominational Secondary School Catchments at Armadale Academy, Linlithgow Academy, West Calder HS and Whitburn Academy

Proposal

West Lothian Council's Education Executive at its meeting on 7 May 2024 authorised Education Services to commence statutory consultation on the proposal to alter the non-denominational secondary school catchment areas of:

  • Armadale Academy
  • Linlithgow Academy
  • West Calder High School
  • Whitburn Academy

Statutory Consultation

In terms of the Schools (Consultation)(Scotland) Act 2010 (the Act), any proposed changes to a school estate in this case creation of a new education establishment, review of admission arrangements arising from school catchment area variations and closure of a school requires Statutory Public Consultation.

The Consultation involves all key stakeholders and statutory consultees as detailed in Schedule 2 of the Act, this includes parents/carers/children and staff of Armadale Academy, Linlithgow Academy, West Calder HS and Whitburn Academy.

Consultation Period

The consultation period was from Monday 13 May 2024 until Friday 28 June 2024.  This timescale adheres to the statutory consultation period for such circumstances which is a minimum of 6 consecutive weeks and include at least 30 school days. A public meeting to discuss the consultation document was be held at:

  • Armadale Academy |  Monday 3 June 2024  |  Time: 7-8pm

Decision

The consultation has now closed. A decision will be made by West Lothian Council Education Executive on 25 November 2024.
