2023/2024 - school session runs from the 14 August 2023 - 28 June 2024
What happens to my application if requesting a place in 2023/2024?
2023/2024 has started, therefore all applications for Primary or Secondary school places if submitted to pupil placement are sent onto the school detailed as 1st choice on the form for the Head teacher to consider and issue a decision.
Please contact that school directly for any update on your application, the Head Teacher has 2 months to issue a decision, however most applications will be decided much more quickly.
2024/2025 - school session runs from the 12 August 2024 - 27 June 2025
We have passed the legal closing date of the 15 March 2024. As this date fell on a Friday this year, we have included those applications received on the 16th & 17th as being received by the closing date.
The School Placement Panel met on the 20 March 2024 and determined the following schools as over-subscribed (more applications than places available):-
Primary : - Bellsquarry PS, Calderwood PS, Greenrigg PS, Holy Family PS, Livingston Village PS, Parkhead PS, Pumpherston & Uphall Station Community PS, Southdale PS and St John the Baptist PS.
Secondary : - Sinclair Academy, St Margaret's Academy, The James young High School, West Calder High School and Winchburgh Academy.
20 March 2024 meeting - when will letters be issued? :-

- Oversubscribed Schools - Letters for have been issued today the 02 April 2024.
- Non-Oversubscribed Schools - Letters are being generated and checked and will be issued as soon as we can, but will be no later than the end of April 2024.
What if my letter states the school is over subscribed :-
NO DECISION has been made on your application yet, and you have until the 10 April 2024 to submit any further information you wish the School Placement Panel to be aware of before making a decision on your application.
The School Placement Panel will then meet again to consider outstanding applications, and grant/refusal letters from this meeting will be issued by the end of April 2024.
Applications received from the 18 March 2024 onwards will be considered after the process for those applications received by the closing date has completed.
Once consideration for these applications is open, they will be considered on an ongoing basis, as quickly as we can, however if you have not received a decision letter within 2 months of submitting your application then please contact us.

What is the process for applications for P2-P7 or S2-S6 in to start in August 2024?
If you wish to apply for a place in stages P2 - P7 or S2 - S6 from August 2024, please do not complete an application until June 2024, as schools are unable to hold a place for longer than 2 weeks, however we do not count school holidays in the 2 weeks, therefore a place allocated 2 weeks before the summer holidays can be held until the 1st day of term in August 2024.
