The process to apply for P1 or S1 places for August 2026 in mainstream has not started yet. This process is not dealt with on a first come first served basis, therefore it does not help to have completed the form before we have the process ready.
Notification that the process has started will be e-mailed to the main contact on record, for all pre-school and P7 children who we are aware of. For those whose children are pre-school or P7 but are not attending a West Lothian Council School or Nursery or being funded to attend one of our Partners, notification is also issued on the West Lothian Council Facebook page and in the West Lothian Courier. For all applications received prior to the process being opened the parent/carer will be notified that their applications is being disregarded.
We are endeavouring to open the application process as soon as we can, but expect it to definitely be open by the start of November 2025.

What is the process for applications for P2-P7 or S2-S6 to start in August 2026?
If you wish to apply for a place in stages P2 - P7 or S2 - S6 from August 2026, please do not complete an application until the start of June 2026, as schools are unable to hold a place for longer than 2 weeks, however we do not count school holidays in the 2 weeks, therefore a place allocated 2 weeks before the summer holidays can be held until the 1st day of term in August 2026.

What happens to my application if requesting a place in 2025/2026?
2025/2026 has started, therefore all applications for all Primary or Secondary school places if submitted to pupil placement are sent onto the school detailed as 1st choice on the form for the Head teacher to consider and issue a decision.
Please contact that school directly for any update on your application, the Head Teacher has 2 months to issue a decision, however most applications will be decided much more quickly.
