West Lothian's schools will close on Monday 8 May to mark the Coronation of King Charles III
The First Minister of Scotland has confirmed the introduction of a Bank Holiday to mark the celebration of His Majesty's Coronation.
All West Lothian Council employees are to be granted an additional day of annual leave (where possible) on Monday 8 May to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. This will result in offices and buildings, including schools and early learning and childcare establishments, closing on Monday 8 May.
The coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May. The Scottish Government have announced plans for a 'Coronation Weekend' covering 6-8 May 2023 to allow individuals, businesses and other organisations in Scotland to celebrate the Coronation.
Leader of West Lothian Council Lawrence Fitzpatrick explained:
"The Scottish Government has asked councils to ensure that families are able to take part in celebrations of the coronation of King Charles III and is supportive of this day being a school holiday."
There are no SQA exams taking place on Monday 8 May due to the public holiday.
