103rd birthday
Happy 103rd birthday to Bessie (nee Glencorse) McKinlay.
Provost Cathy Muldoon and Caroline Maclachlan, Vice Lord-Lieutenant, visited Bessie earlier this week at Burngrange Care Home in West Calder to wish her well and help celebrate her remarkable birthday milestone.
Born on 6 September 1923, Bessie had 10 children and has six surviving children. Her second eldest son died a few years ago and she lost triplets in infancy, two boys and a girl.
In the sixties the family moved to live in Australia, where they stayed for two years. However the family returned home to Scotland to live in Fauldhouse.
Bessie has always been very fit and active all her life, loved her holidays in Blackpool where she thinks she has visited every shop/market.
Her family told us: "She was the most wonderful mother to her children and a good wife to her late husband, Harry. They were married after World War 2 ended and lived a long and happy life with their family."
Provost Cathy Muldoon said: "It was an honour to meet Bessie and I absolutely loved speaking to her. She is a remarkable woman and has lived a remarkable life. I am sure everyone will join me in wishing Bessie a very happy birthday."
