Positive feedback for Harrysmuir Primary
A number of strengths were highlighted by Education Inspectors during a recent visit to Harrysmuir Primary School in Livingston.
The inspection team spent time in the school in November last year and during their visit, they talked to parents/carers and children, and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.
Education Scotland published the findings from their inspection on Tuesday 20 January with inspectors marking the school as 'Good' across three quality indicators; Leadership of change and Learning, teaching and assessment and Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion. The school was evaluated as 'satisfactory' for the final quality indicator- Raising attainment and achievement.
The inspection team found the following strengths in the school's work.
•The headteacher's strong leadership has helped the staff team to create a positive and caring school where children's rights are at the heart of everything. Children, staff, and parents feel valued and included as part of the school community.
•With strong guidance from the leadership team, staff have worked together well to improve writing across the school. This has led to clear progress, with children achieving better results in writing.
•Children demonstrate the school values very well. They are inclusive and respectful in their relationships with each other and staff and engage well in their learning activities.
•The staff's strong focus on improving wellbeing is making a positive difference for children and families across the school community.
Areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and representatives from West Lothian Council with inspectors concluding they are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve.
Harrysmuir Primary School Head Teacher (Seconded) , Frances Stewart said: "I'd like to thank our dedicated school staff who look to make a positive difference for our pupils on a daily basis. It is good to see this has been reflected in the feedback from the inspection team and teaching staff will look to take forward recommendations as we continue to strive to make Harrysmuir the best possible environment for our pupils and the wider community."
