Plans have been approved today by West Lothian Council Executive to progress the delivery of Hawkhill Primary School. The first designs have also been unveiled by West Lothian Council.

The funding package has been agreed with the project being fully funded by developer contributions from Winchburgh Developments Ltd.  with construction set to start in June.

Hub South East will lead on the construction of the new build single stream primary school, along with an 80-place nursery. The facility will be built with a flexible design that will allow for future expansion if required to help cope with increased demand from the growing core development area of Winchburgh.

It is anticipated the school and nursery will be open and fully operational for the start of the academic term in August 2025.

Executive councillor for education, Andrew McGuire said: "Investment in West Lothian Council's learning estate continues with this project within the Winchburgh core development area and illustrates that that the council is committed to investing in the learning estate to improve performance and to enhance teaching environments. The developer will fully fund the cost of the delivery of this project.

"The delivery of this project will enable the continued provision of high-quality facilities for the pupils, staff, stakeholders and the wider West Lothian community."

John Hamilton, CEO of Winchburgh Developments Ltd., said: "This project adds state-of-the-art education facilities to the eastern section of the Winchburgh masterplan, ensuring that modern, well-equipped school facilities are now available to families living in Winchburgh and those moving here as the town grows. Winchburgh Developments Ltd. is proud to fully support — in the transfer of serviced land and funding commitment — these transformational facilities for primary age-children, and we look forward to the opening next year."
