St Nicholas celebrates following a glowing report from inspectors
St Nicholas Primary School and Nursery Class in Broxburn has received high praise from Education Scotland following a recent visit from inspectors.
Education Scotland inspectors spent time in the school and nursery in March 2024 and during their visit, they talked to parents/carers and children, and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.
They have now published their findings in a very positive report for the School and Nursery Class, highlighting the following strengths:
Inspectors found children who are welcoming, respectful and eager to learn. They demonstrate the values of St Nicholas Roman Catholic Primary School and Nursery and are proud members of their faith community.
During their visit they found very positive relationships between children, and between children and adults which is a key strength across the whole school community. These approaches to supportive relationships and positive behaviour are understood by all. This ensures children are engaged and motivated in learning.
Inspectors highlighted senior leaders and staff's very effective use of data across the school and nursery. As a result, children make very good progress in learning and maintain consistently high levels of attainment.
They also noted senior leaders very effective management of change. This has had a positive impact on approaches to learning, teaching and assessment across the school and nursery. As a result, children benefit from stimulating experiences and nurturing relationships.
Headteacher Siobhan Kellock said:
"We are delighted with the findings of Education Scotland's report. It reflects our shared approach of a caring and supportive ethos and culture combined with a clear focus on raising attainment and achievement for all of our learners. As Head Teacher, I am so grateful for my whole team of teachers, practitioners, support staff and partners within our school community. The result of our inspection is a reflection on everyone and shows that we are committed to providing the very best outcomes for all of our children. We will continue to reflect on our practices, building on our strengths, to help inform our work moving forward."
Executive councillor for education Andrew McGuire said: "This is a great report for St Nicholas. The pupils and nursery children are a credit to the hard-working staff team and wider school community. I look forward to hearing how the school and nursery class continues to develop in the future."
