The information evenings held on Tuesday 4 March and Thursday 6 March saw school pupils from West Lothian's Secondary Schools invited to learn more about apprenticeship opportunities coming up with the council.

Pupils and their families had the opportunity to speak to council operatives at 'Apprenticeship Pods' set up for each apprenticeship framework. Presentations were delivered by the Organisational Development team throughout the event taking hopeful applicants all the way through the application process including details on assessments and interviews.

Apprentices across the council receive practical and theory learning, with all apprentices completing college work which is combined with on-the-job training with experienced staff. Apprentices work across a variety of roles including roads, horticulture, fleet mechanic, electricians, plumbers, joiners, plasterers and roofers. The council also employs Modern Apprentices in office- based roles such as Accounting, Customer Service, the Advice Shop/Financial Inclusion and Planning Services.

It is anticipated that West Lothian Council will have at total of 8 apprenticeship opportunities available across a range of construction trades, operational and administration areas.

New opportunities are set to go live in April and will be available via the myjobscotland website: https://www.myjobscotland.gov.uk/councils/west-lothian-council/jobs

Executive councillor for economy, community empowerment & wealth building, Kirsteen Sullivan said: "The council has always placed a great value in offering a comprehensive apprenticeship programme with the aim of helping people undertake valuable training and gain experience which will serve them well for the rest of their careers.

"The council will soon be advertising new apprenticeship opportunities via the myjobscotland website and I wish all prospective applicants the best of luck."
