Spanish exchange boost for West Lothian pupils
A West Lothian secondary school has teamed up with a partner school in Spain to help both their pupils improve their language skills.
Inveralmond Community High School in Livingston recently welcomed representatives from Kostka Colegio in the Santander region of northern Spain to West Lothian.
The 30 pupils and five staff spent a morning with Inveralmond's Third Year and Senior Phase Spanish classes, where they collaborated in conversational icebreaker tasks and teambuilding activities.
They also took part in a cultural quiz, where pupils from both countries learned more about the language, festivals and traditions of the country they are studying.
Inveralmond's Acting Headteacher Hamish Shankland said: "It was fantastic to welcome our partners from Kostka Colegio for an excellent event aimed at developing pupils' confidence and enhancing their problem solving and communication skills.
"We greeted our Spanish friends to the school with the sound of the traditional bagpipes, and it was great to get more of a first-hand insight into Spanish culture from our visitors too.
"All pupils embraced and thoroughly enjoyed this incredible opportunity organised by Mrs McMillan, and provided very positive feedback.
"We hope this is something we can repeat later in the year, for our Spanish learners during the 2024/25 term."
