Time capsule captures first year at Calderwood

A fascinating insight into the beginnings of Calderwood Primary and Nursery in East Calder has been buried for future generations to find.

Pupils were set a time capsule challenge on 4 March 2023, which marked a year since the school was officially opened.  The task was to select appropriate items to go into the time capsule, which represent their memories of the first year at the school.

A special ceremony was held exactly one year later on 4 March 2024 to bury the time capsule in the new playground containing items chosen by pupils, a school tie and a timeline of events.

Pupils and staff from the school were joined by representatives from the parent council and Morrison Construction, who built the school, for the event.

Calderwood Headteacher Sarah Burton said: "We asked our young learners to consider what should go into the time capsule and specifically what makes Calderwood unique.

"They enthusiastically took up the challenge and selected items that help tell the story of Calderwood's first year. We hope that when future generations find the capsule, it will give them a real insight into life at Calderwood now.

"Special thanks to our parent council and Morrison Construction for supporting our special event."
