Pupils offered wide range of development opportunities at Broxburn Academy
Broxburn Academy has received praise for the range of courses on offer to senior pupils and development opportunities available through organised out of class activities.
Inspectors from Education Scotland visited the school in November where they talked to parents/carers and children and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.
The inspection team found the following strengths in the school's work.
The headteacher provides compassionate leadership and is a valued member of the school community. Senior leaders have established a culture where staff are encouraged to lead improvements across the school.
Young people benefit from a greater range of courses and programmes in the senior phase, supported effectively by partners.
Most young people attain appropriately from S4 to S6. Teachers prepare and support young people effectively for National Qualifications.
Young people are developing a range of important skills and attributes through their participation in out of class activities.
Overall, the school was evaluated as Good in raising attainment and achievement and Satisfactory in Leadership of change; Learning, teaching and assessment and Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion. Areas for improvement were also highlighted which the school and West Lothian Council will take forward and work towards making improvements.
Headteacher Peter Reid said: "We strive to provide a wide range of opportunities for our pupils to further their education and to also develop as people so that they are well equipped for taking a positive step forwards once it is time for them to move on from Broxburn Academy. We are pleased with the report and we will continue to work hard to develop and improve opportunities for our pupils and wider school community."
