The Cousland Interchange Bridge on the A899 Livingston Road (dual carriageway) is comprised of two bridges (east and west) to accommodate north bound and southbound traffic.

The repair programme will take place between Monday 1 April and Friday 24 June, with work being completed on the west bridge before moving onto the east bridge to minimise disruption. The work is being carried out by Chemcem (Scotland) Ltd on behalf of the council.

The work will include replacing concrete in the deck soffits, bridge joints and painting of the steelwork supporting the concrete decks to ensure the bridge remains safe for the future. The concrete repairs to the deck soffits cannot be undertaken while traffic is using the carriageway above.

During works to the west bridge, a short section of the A899 Livingston Road will be closed in the northbound lanes. Northbound traffic on the A899 will be put into a contraflow system for a short distance using the central reserve cross-over points and the southbound carriageway. Only the south bound off slip road will be open during this portion of the works.

During works to the east bridge a short section of the A899 Livingston Road will be closed in the southbound lanes. Southbound traffic on the A899 will be put into a contraflow system for a short distance using the central reserve cross-over points and the northbound carriageway. Only the north bound off slip road will be open during these works. Diversions will be put in place for traffic approaching or leaving the interchange.

Full details on the diversions and associated traffic management can be viewed via the planned road closure section of the West Lothian Council website: https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/article/80298/A899-Cousland-Interchange-Livingston-Road-Closure-Monday-1-Apr

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: "We would like to make sure that Livingston residents and those who travel over this bridge are aware of these works in advance.

"The scale of these works means that some diversions and temporary traffic lights to be put in place to allow the essential repairs to be carried out safely.

"Those affected are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel."
