As part of their celebrations for Care Experienced Week, Inveralmond Community High School took part in the Who Cares? Scotland "Design a Christmas Card Competition". Who Cares? Scotland is a national organisation ensuring that Care Experienced Pupils have access to the support they need if and when they need it.

The competition invited entrants to come up with their own concept for a Christmas card for care experienced people so that they do not feel forgotten about at Christmas time.

S3 pupil Emily was selected as winner and her unique design is on its way to people across the country. Emily also received a £50 voucher as a prize for designing the winning entry.

The competition was  during Care Experienced Week 2023. This was a week to celebrate the achievements and focus on the lifelong rights of Care Experienced Young People.

Inveralmond Community High School Acting Headteacher, Hamish Shankland said: "Christmas is a fantastic occasion for our school however it can be an unsettling and lonely time for many. This competition allowed our pupils to reflect on this and there were some excellent designs produced. We're delighted for Emily whose card will be enjoyed by many, many people this Christmas."

It's been a busy time for the school with pupils and staff also coming together to raise funds for Children in Need. A group of Level 6 Events pupils used their planning skills to host a range of fundraising activities to raise money for the charity. Pupils created sweetie cones to sell to at break time, S6 pupils participated in a fancy dress day and S1-5 had a non-uniform day. Pupils also arranged for a "Soak the Teacher" activity where pupils donated £1 to fire water guns at their teachers.

Pupils passed their Event Organisation module and raised £310 for Children in the Need and everyone involved had a great day in the process.
