Common Good Register to grow
More properties have been added to West Lothian's Register of Common Good.
Council Executive has approved adding a further four properties to the register, which was last updated in September 2023.
The properties are: Watson Park, Wood Park and the former library site in West Main Street, all in Armadale, and the former site of the war memorial in Wallace Road, Bathgate.
This takes the total of items on the register to 33, which includes six for Armadale, 23 for Bathgate and four for Linlithgow. Further properties and objects are still being investigated with the aim of completing the Register of Common Good in 2024.
Common good is property owned by a local authority which has been passed down, through local government reorganisation, from former burghs such as Armadale, Bathgate, Linlithgow and Whitburn.
Councils have a legal duty to establish and maintain a Register of Common good for their area. It is available to view online at .
Leader of West Lothian Council Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: "It's vital we identify all the properties and objects inherited by the council to see which should be classed as common good.
"This means the views of the community in question will be considered if the future of the property or object is in question.
"I welcome the excellent work done by council officers to look into all the properties and items flagged up as potentially common good."
