Council officers are recommending Council Executive approve a 25-year community benefit lease to the club, covering the changing pavilion, clubhouse and synthetic pitches.

Murieston United Football Club (MUFC) were established in 1985 and were the first West Lothian club to achieve the Scottish Football Association's Community Quality Mark Award in 2009. They currently have over 500 registered players across a range of ages and teams.

The new long-term lease would enable MUFC to apply for external funding to improve their facilities, such as the synthetic pitches which are nearing the end of their useful operational lives.

Leader of West Lothian Council, Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: "Murieston United Football Club carry out a fantastic role in the local community, providing excellent opportunities for healthy activity, exercise and team work through football.

"If approved, this long-term lease would open up opportunities for the club to access external funding sources, that could help them meet their aspirations of improving the facilities at Bankton Mains Park."

A rent of £10,000 per year is proposed to reflect the market rate, but it is expected this would be waived in full due to the community benefit delivered through the sporting activities provided by the club.

Under the terms of the lease, MUFC would be responsible for all repairs, maintenance and upkeep of the facilities at Bankton Mains Park going forward.
