The school welcomed a team from Education Scotland and the Care Inspectorate recently, looking at areas including: Learning, teaching and assessment; Raising attainment and achievement; and Securing children's progress.

Inspectors singled out a number of key strengths in the school's work, including: senior leaders and staff establishing a positive and nurturing ethos; the wide range of opportunities offered in the curriculum; and how motivated and engaged the children are.

They also highlighted areas for improvement, such as developing a consistent approach to high-quality learning and teaching, and developing further approaches to tracking children's progress and skills in all areas of the curriculum.

No more visits by inspectors are planned, as they are confident the school has the capacity to continue to improve.

Williamston Headteacher Jane Livingston said: "We warmly welcome the feedback of inspectors from Education Scotland and the Care Inspectorate on the positive practice taking place at Williamston.

"It's fantastic to see they have recognised the good work taking place in the primary school and nursery class, and we will certainly take onboard their suggestions for further improvements going forward.

"I'd like to say a huge thanks to all the school staff and our community members involved in the inspection for hard work and support."
