A West Lothian community café is set to expand its opening hours, thanks to volunteer service users from West Lothian Council's Community Inclusion Team (CIT).

The Barn Community Cafe were looking to expand their opening days at Mosswood Community Centre in Livingston to include Thursdays when the community pantry is open, but were unable to do this without additional support.

Daniel, Kim, Michael, Stephen and Tracey who attend CIT, volunteered to offer their services and have now completed their training, which enabled the café to open on Thursdays from 16 November.

The cafés co-ordinator Norma already support some people from West Lothian Council's Learning Disability Service at Pathways by providing volunteering opportunities, these opportunities help build confidence and skills and allows people to meaningfully contribute to their local community. There were no first day nerves and people just got stuck in with what they needed to do and took it in their stride.

At the end of busy shift people said that they had, had a 'great' 'fantastic' and 'fun' time really enjoying being part of something so beneficial.
