Consultation on alcohol licensing policy launched

Local residents are being asked for their opinion on the future of alcohol licensing policy in West Lothian.

West Lothian Licensing Board is consulting on its alcohol licensing policy in order to prepare a new statement of policy to be published in November 2023 for the next five years.

The Board wishes to engage with and invite comments from as wide a spectrum of people and organisations as possible regarding the policy issues relating to the licensing of the sale of alcohol.

The Board would encourage anyone with an interest in alcohol licensing in West Lothian to take part in this consultation. 

The online consultation will be open for a period of three weeks from 16 March 2023 and will close on 14 April 2023 can be responded to online by completing a questionnaire that covers a wide range of policy issues relating to the sale of alcohol. Written responses and any evidence can be sent to the Board by 18 April 2023.

Following consultation, the Board will consider all responses before preparing and publishing a draft statement of policy for further comments.

Chair of West Lothian Licensing Board, Councillor Tony Pearson, said: "We would like to hear the views of local residents and those with an interest in the policy issues relating to the sale of alcohol in West Lothian to help us update the current policy for the period 2023 to 2028.

"West Lothian Licensing Board's alcohol licensing policy aims to ensure that the sale of alcohol in West Lothian takes place in a way that upholds the five licensing objectives of preventing crime and disorder, securing public safety, preventing public nuisance, protecting and improving public health, and protecting children and young persons from harm."

"The consultation is wide-ranging and has been designed for a wide range of people, bodies and organisations. Responses are welcomed from everyone with an interest, whether they wish to answer just some or all of the questions."
