"Adult Learning are 'Unlocking your Potential' by organising and designing courses specifically for parents to undertake SQA learning in the community. Courses will offer the chance to build parents confidence and get back into learning. Support is provided for study and to find other opportunities after!"

College in the Community
Self in Community
Introduction to the course
This course is delivered in a two hour sessions per week, and runs over 12 weeks during term time. The Self in Community unit is part of the SQA Self Development Award. This unit allows learners to improve their self confidence and team working ability by developing their interpersonal skills as they work and negotiate with others to carry out a group project.
What students expect to learn
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Review and evaluate your own personal skills
- Demonstrate effective communication within a group
- Effectively take an active part in a group project
Qualification
This course is available at SQA levels 3-5. Award level is dependant on the students submitted work. Full support Is given to ensure students achieve their maximum potential. All learning needs are supported and support is offered regardless of previous experience.
Entry requirements for the course
- Over 16 years of age
- Must be a parent or carer
How the course will be taught
The course is taught with a learner centred, coaching approach, where the views and needs of each learner is priority. The course explores team working, communication and project management and allows time and support for the SQA work to be completed alongside a self directed project.
Health and Safety guidance
Students should make themselves aware of the venue's health and safety guidance if relevant and advised by the Adult Learning Tutor.

There are no additional costs to the student. All materials are provided.

Self Awareness
Introduction to the course
This course is delivered in two hour sessions per week, and runs over 12 weeks during term time. The Self Awareness unit is part of the SQA Self Development Award. The aim of the unit is to allow candidates to build confidence, self esteem and self awareness through self evaluation of their own qualities, feelings, achievements and areas of development, while undertaking a personal project.
What students expect to learn
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Identify your own strengths and skills
- Identify areas for development
- Project plan to set goals

This course is delivered in a two hour session per week, and runs over 12 weeks during term time. The unit allows learners to improve their self-reliance and confidence by developing their task management skills while carrying out a vocational project.
What students expect to learn
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Explain limitations in your own task management skills
- Identify personal targets for skill development
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of a self imposed plan

Practical Abilities

This course is delivered in a two hour session per week, over 12 weeks and runs during term time. The aim of the unit is to help learners to improve confidence and build resilience by developing their sense of self and identity. This will be achieved by participating in a self directed project focussing on practical abilities.
What students expect to learn
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Identify how language impacts self belief and confidence
- Demonstrate increased practical abilities
- Review your own abilities and demonstrate an increased skill base in a practical ability project

Improving Wellbeing
Introduction to the course
This course is delivered over a two hour session per week for 12 weeks and runs during term time only. The wellbeing award explores factors that influence personal wellbeing and encourages learners to develop critical thinking and planning skills to enhance wellbeing. Through the development of self reflection skills this builds self empowerment to lead to improved wellbeing.
What students expect to learn
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Set clear goals and build accurate plans to support progress
- Understand self motivation and how to create this
- Effectively monitor progress towards goals

Exploring Wellbeing
Introduction to the course
This course is delivered in two hour sessions per week, for 12 weeks, during term time only. The wellbeing award explores factors that influence personal wellbeing and encourages learners to develop critical thinking and research skills to explore connections between mental, emotional, social and physical health, and examine wellbeing on a personal, community, societal or global level.
What students expect to learn
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Conduct accurate research and identify credible sources
- Demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of wellbeing topics
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills and challenge stereotypes
