Statement issued on behalf of Ms Moira Niven MBE, Lord-Lieutenant for West Lothian, and Provost Tom Kerr, West Lothian Council

"The Commonwealth is a family built around our shared values and history. We have a shared ambition and vision for a more prosperous and equal world; we collaborate for a common good and are committed to our strategic objectives and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

"COVID-19 has challenged all Commonwealth countries, but we remain hopeful that we will emerge stronger and more committed to our values than before.

"The theme for Commonwealth Day 2022 will centre around the theme for the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting - 'Delivering a Common Future' - which highlights how the 54 member countries in the Commonwealth family are 'innovating, connecting and transforming' to help achieve goals like fighting climate change, promoting good governance and boosting trade.

"Given that 2022 is Her Majesty's Jubilee Year, there will also be a special focus this year on the role service plays in the lives of people and communities across the Commonwealth."
