Learn how to send a text from a mobile phone, or send an email to friends or family, or use the chat function on a games console while gaming, or participate in a story using a switch device.
Learn how to add a filter to your device, use immersive reader or dictate, or any other appropriate aids which will help you to communicate.
Learn how to use your device, tablet, smart phone, digital camera to take pictures of your chosen topic.
This Unit is about using very simple information and communication technology (ICT) to access, process, and present information in personal, workplace, social, and educational situations.
This unit should take 40 hours plus practice at home. You will need to show you can:
- use features on the screen, such as icons, menus, and option buttons to choose operations
- copy/transfer files from the hard drive to a removable storage device and vice versa
- create, name, save, copy/transfer, and delete folders and files
- select applications software suitable for the activity you are doing e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database, media packages
- enter, edit, and output data using appropriate applications software
- locate information using a single search criterion from local or remote data sources e.g. the internet, CD-ROM, intranet, your own computer
- present information in an appropriate mode e.g. display on screen, print out, play an audio file
- keep information safe by using common information communication technology security measures e.g. keeping your own login and password secure, and taking precautions when online
This Unit is designed for learners who want to acquire basic knowledge and skills in using word processor applications. Learners will learn to create, edit, save, share and retrieve simple documents using web and desktop word processing applications. Learners will also acquire basic skills in file management. The Unit has a particular emphasis on using web applications, although this is not exclusive and desktop apps can be used. This Unit is suitable for learners who have no previous experience of word processing. Although the Outcomes are practical, they each contain the necessary underpinning knowledge to permit learners to transfer their skills to new environments.
This Unit is designed to provide learners with basic knowledge, understanding and practical problem-solving skills in using spreadsheet applications, through a range of practical and knowledge tasks. The Unit has a particular emphasis on using web applications, although this is not exclusive and desktop apps can be used. Learners will gain knowledge and skills in creating simple spreadsheets and implementing practical solutions using a range of basic features. Learners will be introduced to the sharing facilities provided by contemporary cloud services. This Unit is suitable for learners who have no previous experience of using spreadsheet applications and wish to gain basic competency in their use.

The Unit has a particular emphasis on using web applications, although this is not exclusive and desktop apps can be used. The Unit covers the creation of basic presentations including creating, editing, saving and sharing presentation documents. Learners will gain knowledge and skills in creating simple presentations. Learners will be introduced to the sharing facilities provided by contemporary cloud services. Learners will also learn about the selection and use of multimedia to enhance the presentation of information. This Unit is suitable for learners who have no previous experience of using presentation packages and wish to gain basic competency in their use.
