(SG) Supplementary Guidance : Wind Energy Development

Supplementary Guidance (SG) is produced by the council in order to explain how particular development plan policies should be applied in practice. 

In this instance, the guidance has been drafted to support policy NRG 3 of the West Lothian Local Development Plan (LDP) 'Wind Energy Development' which supports the development of wind energy schemes in principle where it can be satisfactorily demonstrated that proposals will not individually or cumulatively have a significantly adverse impact on local communities, the natural and historic environment, public safety and the economy of the local area.

When approved the guidance will be a material consideration which the council will have regard to when it considers applications for planning permission for wind energy developments, although as individual site characteristics must also be considered, and each case is different, compliance with the guidance will not in itself guarantee that planning permission would be granted.
