We offer different ways for you to easily pay your Council Tax
How to pay your Council Tax
This is a simple, safe and convenient way to pay your Council Tax. If you want to pay by direct debit or change your bank details if you already pay by direct debit please complete our online form or call the Revenues Unit on 01506 282020 (option 2) to set up your direct debit over the phone.
We offer a range of payment dates for direct debit:
- payable over 10 months to January,
- payable over 12 months to March, and on the following dates,
- 1st, 8th, 16th, 24th and the last day of the month
- If you already pay by direct debit and want to change your payment dates please email us
You can pay your Council Tax online by using the council's online payment facility. You need to have your Council Tax account number and your debit or credit card to use the online payments system.
Notice to Customers
West Lothian Council take fraud prevention very seriously. All payment transactions take place within a secure online environment and the council will NEVER ask you to submit credit or debit card details via email.
You can call our 24 hour automated payment line on 01506 282407 to pay your Council Tax. You need to have your Council Tax account number and your debit or credit card to use the payments line.
Please quote sort code 800880, bank account number 00918781 and your Council Tax account number.
Customer Information Service Centres
You can pay your Council Tax at the cash offices at the following locations
- Armadale - 1/3 East Main Street
- Bathgate - Bathgate Partnership Centre, South Bridge Street
- Broxburn - Strathbrock Partnership Centre, 189a West Main Street
- Livingston - Arrochar House, Almondvale Boulevard, Livingston
- Whitburn - 5 East Main Street
You do not need your payment card to pay at the Customer Information Service Centres.
You can make a payment at any Post Office, please ensure that you have your payment card with you.
If you are paying by cheque at the Post Office it should be made payable to 'Post Office Ltd.' Your cheque should also be crossed and your Council Tax account number written on the back.
You can make a payment at any Payzone outlet, please ensure that you have your payment card with you.
Important: Do not send cash or your payment card through the post.
Your cheque or postal order should be crossed and made payable to 'West Lothian Council'. Please remember to write your Council Tax account number on the back.
