Event Information
The Bridge 19-40 Union Canal Society is a small and friendly charity (SCO23110) which supports the heritage and environment of the Union Canal near Broxburn, Winchburgh and Philpstoun, between bridges 19 and 40.
A recent survey found that Bluebell requires significant repairs. The Society is therefore launching a major fundraising campaign, in conjunction with Flotilla 200, on Saturday 21 May the day of the Flotilla's arrival at Port Buchan, Broxburn.
Flotilla 200, Union Canal Flotilla the most important canal event of the year is being planned by Scottish Waterways for All, working in partnership with Scottish Canals and numerous other organisations to celebrate 200 years since the opening of the Union Canal. Port Buchan, hosted by the Society is one of the Flotilla's designated muster points.
The launch will consist of an afternoon of fun for all. The muster point will have stalls, refreshments, raffles and more. The highlight of the afternoon will be the arrival of the Flotilla itself at approximately 1140am. Not only will those in attendance have the opportunity to see and cheer on the boats as they pass by in this very special event, but they will have the opportunity to visit Bluebell and find out more about her history and that of the Canal's importance to West Lothian in particular.
