Self-Isolation Support Grant
The Scottish Government has committed to providing a grant of £500 to individuals who are working and in receipt of low income if they will lose earnings as a result of being required to self-isolate. The purpose of the grant is to financially support individuals to help them comply with the Test & Protect Service's requirement to self-isolate to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
If you have tested positive for Covid-19 or are a close contact of someone who has tested positive, you may be eligible to claim a self-isolation support grant. Please see link below that will take you to the Scottish Government website and will detail the eligibility criteria.
Important information - Your application will not be progressed without the following
To be considered for a Self-Isolation Grant, West Lothian Council must be able to check your self-isolation period with the Test and Protect service. This means that if you are positive for Covid-19 you must have a positive PCR test result and agree to share your information with the Local Authority. If you are a close contact of someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 you must be on the Test & Protect list and also have agreed to share your information with the Local Authority.
There are two ways you can make sure this can be done:
If you have been advised by the Test and Protect service to self-isolate by Text Message, please call 0800 030 8012 to confirm that you have applied for a Self-Isolation Grant and you wish to share your information with West Lothian Council.
If you have downloaded the proximity app onto your phone and you have been advised to self-isolate via the app, you must share your information with the Local Authority by either
- following the instructions on the text message to give your permission to share your details with the local authority; or
- by downloading the certificate and emailing it to the ScottishWelfareFund@westlothian.gov.uk Please also provide your full name and Self-Isolation Grant reference number in the email to ensure this information is attached to your application.
In order to make an award for a self-isolation support grant, the council will verify your earnings and/or award of benefits on the Department for Work and Pensions systems. The online application form will capture a self-declaration if you are self-isolating because you are the sole carer of a child under 16 or an adult over the age of 16 who themselves have been asked to self-isolate, however you will be required to provide the following :
- A bank statement of the account into which you wish your grant to be paid.
- A self-assessment return if you are self-employed
- Any other evidence required will be discussed with you
A Self-isolation support grant payment will be paid directly to your nominated bank account
You can still apply for the grant if your right to live in the UK includes the conditions that you have no recourse to public funds.
Applications can be made at any point during the 28 calendar days from the day you are told to self-isolate. Late applications will only be accepted in exceptional circumstances where you can demonstrate that factors, outwith your control, prevented you from making a claim during your self-isolation period eg hospital admittance, severe illness.
If you meet the criteria set out in the guidance above and have followed the instructions in relation to the Test and Protect Service, please call 01506 280010 between 08:30 and 16:30 to speak to a member of staff at West Lothian Council who will provide you with details on how to apply for a Grant.
