Dyslexia Awareness Week
Around 1 in 10 people in the UK are affected by dyslexia. Dyslexia Awareness Week this year will run from November 3-9 in a series of events running across West Lothian and Scotland. The week is being promoted nationally by Dyslexia Scotland.
At ABE, we're passionate about promoting greater understanding of dyslexia, so with that in mind we've organised a couple of informative and fun events.
On Tuesday 4th November we will be running a student event at Bathgate Partnership Centre. The event will run from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
Everyone is welcome at the event, but to book a place speak to your ABE tutor or contact us.
The event will give you the chance to chat with students from ABE groups, and to share everyday hints and tips on dyslexia. You can also take part in small table activities run by ABE students. These activities will include:
- It's a comic life! Making comic books with Comic Life is easy - come along and we we will show you how.
- Getting the specs. Find out more about specialist eye tests and tinted glasses.
- Talk to me! Try out text to speech mobile apps.
- Find friends online. This activity will focus on using online web forums.
We are also running a dyslexia awareness event for volunteers and tutors. This event will feature presentations from West Lothian library services, Capability Scotland, Jobcentre Plus and the local branch of Dyslexia Scotland. This is a great opportunity to find out more about resources in in the local area.
This event will run on Tuesday 11th November, 7-9pm at Bathgate Partnership Centre. If you are a volunteer or tutor who wants to attend the event, please contact the ABE team.
