      The Voluntary Sector Support Team is responsible for the development and and day to day management of Councils policies relating to the voluntary and 3rd Sectors and the management and development of the Council's Employer Supported Volunteering programme.The Voluntary Sector Support Team manage the funding process and monitor the organisations that it funds. It also manages the Gala Committee Budget and the Pensioners Christmas Fund.

      West Lothian is rich in voluntary arts organisations. Every month around 150 different groups meet in communities from Whitburn to Winchburgh and from Polbeth to Pumpherston.

      Our Communications Volunteers assist Advice Shop staff to communicate with members of the public who are not confident English speakers.

      Disability Benefit Volunteers help customers to complete complex disability benefit claim forms during pre- booked appointment sessions.

    • Events Volunteer

      Working with the Advice Shop, our Events Volunteers assist staff at a range of community events, such as jobs fairs, information stalls and fun days. Volunteers give members of the public information about the Advice Shop and its services and help staff to set up and dismantle stalls.

      There is evidence that young people are under-represented in the electoral process (from getting on to the electoral register to voting). The council has an ongoing programme of events in schools throughout West Lothian with the aim of increasing participation in the electoral process.

      The Electoral Registration Officer produces the Register of Electors for the council. You must be on this to be able to vote in elections. You can now apply to get on the Electoral Register up to 11 working days before an election.
