Lipreading Taster Course

Lipreading taster courses last for 6 weeks and give a flavour of what is involved in lipreading.  Groups are made up of no more than 12 people which means we can arrange the seating so everyone can see each other.  We also use technology to give learners the best possible chance of knowing what each other are saying.  We provide personal listeners if you use a hearing aid to help to make the sound clearer and the tutor will make sure you know what is going on.

We will help you to build up your skills with step-by-step lipreading activities working with the tutor. Lipreading can help fill the gaps when you can't hear everything that is being said. It's important that you learn to adapt to different people so you will practice your lipreading with the others in the group as well.

We will show you specialist equipment that can help when you have a hearing loss and give you information about services that can help.  But there's more of course and it's about you. Sharing information with others who have similar problems is one of the most important aspects of being in a lipreading group. You can learn so much from each other on how to cope in situations like the bank, at the doctor's, in a busy restaurant and everyone has experiences that are worth hearing about.

The aim of the taster is to build confidence so that you can be comfortable in everyday conversation with your family and friends. You can tell them what you need them to do for a better conversation.

The first step is to contact us to arrange an appointment so we can find out more about you and your needs.
